Doxford Hall - Superb Northumberland Wedding Venue

I have had the pleasure of photographing a number of weddings at the wonderful Doxford Hall – here’s my view on the place as a wedding venue from a wedding photographer’s perspective...

You can’t fail to be wowed as you approach Doxford from the drive. Walking through the lovely arch brings you to the main entrance to the hotel giving you a great first impression of the beautifully kept house and grounds.

For brides, bedrooms for the important wedding preparations are very spacious – plenty of room for all those bridesmaids to join you in the fun! The rooms are light and airy meaning some great photographs of all the action. This is often more challenging in cramped and dark room but not a problem at Doxford.

The room used for the ceremony is beautiful with stunning wooden columns at either side and lovely light entering from the sides, again enhancing the photographs of your most important part of the day.

Following the ceremony there is a large circular room as one option for drinks and canapes but weather and season permitting you might prefer to be outside making the most of the lovely surroundings. The grounds are beautiful and provide so many opportunities for great photos, whether this be for family groups and so on or just for the two of you. There are so many features to pick from; gardens, steps, balustrades, lawns, countryside backdrops, the list goes on. Personally, when photographing a wedding, I don’t like to take a couple away from their guests for too long – after all friends and family have often come a long way to be with you! At Doxford, a 20 minute wander with the happy couple is ample to capture a whole host of varied, beautiful photos in ever-changing settings. The lovely gardens and interior decoration also means that the more informal, reportage style wedding photos that capture the action as it happens will also look great!

Doxford is also flexible. For winter weddings, when the weather might not always do what you wish it would, there are plenty of options for indoor or creative photography.

Doxford’s main function room is HUGE and able to cater for the larger wedding groups that many other country house type venues can’t accommodate. It’s a beautiful, flexible space which looks amazing once dressed!

Doxford’s hidden bonus is also it’s proximity to the sea and in particular the gorgeous Newton by the Sea. For those adventurous couples who want to take a little ‘time out’ later in the day before the evening celebration kicks off there’s the option for some stunning beach photos with that amazing wedding dress!  Alternatively, maybe you fancy using Newton as a location for an engagement or pre-wedding shoot – it’s a popular choice!
